TRICK OR TREAT? Donors Want To Contribute To Your Mission…

A dark house is not inviting on Halloween. Have you kept your proverbial lights on for donors to find you? Donors want to contribute to your mission; however, you have to make it easy for them to find you on a consistent basis. Then, creating a compelling call-to-action is what will move them to engage with your cause.

There is much debate in the philanthropic world about how often to communicate with your donors. How much is too much or too little? That’s an easy question to answer: Just ask your donors when and how they want to hear from you. Simple, free, survey applications like Survey Monkey are a great way to involve your donors in your decision making. The free version is very basic, but when budgets are tight, they will get you the information to need to connect with your donors in a more personally, relevant way.

Most CRM systems have the capability to set automatic frequency and timing on a per-donor basis. Developing a strategic communication plan ahead of time will allow you to work on the copy well in advance and set it to release on your specified dates.

Bottom Line: Donors want to hear your good news. They want to know they are making a difference during these unprecedented times by supporting your organization. Talk to them as often as they want to hear from you. Keep your lights on and your front door* open and inviting.
